This month we will be exploring two different, but connected parts of Paisley’s history. The night will begin with a look at the history of the West Relief Church, also knwn as Canal Street Church/ Castlehad Church. We will look at its origins and the graveyard. Following a short break we will then look at the story of Peter Burnett, born in Virginia in 1764 he participated in the War of Independance before eventually ending up in Paisley as weaving apprentice and becoming friends with the Tannhill family… Come along to discover the life of the first african-american in town!
This talk will be held in the Session Room of Paisley St George’s Church on Causeyside Street, Paisley, PA1 1YP on TUESDAY 24th April 2026 between 7 and 9pm. Entry is only from the Porch entrance on Causeyside Street. There is no access from the Hall entrance on Stow Street.
